Projections for
the Year 2004
House Renewal and Building by
Adolescents trained in construction
Ninette Morales, member of
NITCA's board and director of "Habitar", a
NGO that provides community development along with housing
improvement and/or building, visited NITCA Project.
She came accompanied by members of INATEC,
a government agency who grants scholarships to population
at risk, mostly Adolescents, training them in different
trades. Also a delegate from PNUD (United Nations)
came to visit and observed NITCA's development and housing
needs. They explained they would be willing to teach
a large number of Adolescents in "construction".
And once they were trained and certified by INATEC,
they would preceed to build 50 houses for those most
in need in the barrio. Two conditions carried on the
project: the possession of Property deed and also that
the land would not be at risk of flooding.
Next day Marcia, the general coordinator of projects,
and Ma. Antonia, our new administrative director, got
on the road and soon they filled the names of the 50
"shack" owners (easy to find). Within 24 hours,
Ma. Antonia got a call that we should look for 50 more
houses under same conditions. We are expectanly waiting
to know if the Proposal is accepted to be funded. Nothing
would be more needed for our barrio than the building
of housing replacing the huts where they live. But even
more important, the project would be so holistic since
it would involved: education for the adolescents acquiring
a trade and also, the fact the same youngsters would
be the builders within the community.
The learning would take place at the Casa
Club of Adolescents. Mr. Lambert,
from Switzerland, will be happy to learn of the use
of the building he funded.

Training to Adolescents along
with their families
Mi Familia, a governmental agency,
is offering to embark in a series of training to the population
most at risk: The Pre-Adolescent and Adolescent groups
along with their families. This is a most needed issue
in the barrio. The training will take place at the Casa
Club of Adolescents.

Training in different fields to
the Gobierno Barrial
In compliance with the Operative plan for
2004, NITCA continues to periodically have training
workshops to strengthen the Gobierno Barrial
and get new members to substitute the ones who moved away.
The Gobierno Barrial work on the community is vital to
move the community toward self-sufficiency for the future.
Its members already have shown what they can do and work
toward mobilizing and conscientizicing the pople.
It is absolutely necessary to continue to train all of
the time the members of the Gobierno Barrial. The future
of the community depends of the empowerment of their leadership
among the community.

Environment Improvement by Reforestation
and Communal Gardening
NITCA plans to continue improving the Environment
by Reforestation as well as the Planting of Fruits
Trees and Vegetables that grow well in the land.
It is a wonder to see that the fruit trees that NITCA
gave the community to plant 2 years ago are beginning
to bear fruit. The growing of Vegetables will also be
a source of food for the Community Pre-School.

Bringing to the Barrio an Autonomous
Elementary School
CAPRI, an NGO organization, who
cooperates with our children in Education, is also joining
forces with NITCA seeking the building of an autonomous
elementary school.
FISE, a government Agency, is letting us know what it
takes to reach this goal. There is full support of parents
for the project, which is one of the requisites to apply
for it.

Recreation for Pre-School and
the rest of the Community
NITCA's long time dream for having a small Recreation
Park for Pre-Scholars seems to become a reality now.
Thanks the tireless efforts of Linda Copeland,
Just Connections and several Methodist
Churches in England, NITCA has just received
money enough to start building. It will be a great day
when we can see our children come out of the class and
run to the swings, canals and play outside. We are starting
to plant trees around to shade the place. The three levels
of Pre-School children have already planted some flower
plants which might go around the little park and tended
by them.
NITCA is reminding the Major of the City of Managua that
there is NOTHING in el Barrio Los Laureles Sur for the
Adolescents in the line of recreation. A field where they
could throw balls and get train for tournaments would
certainly be very useful and would diminish crime.

Bringing more Micro Credit Projects
Is one of NITCA's most important goals.
The community at large is so deprived of jobs. So many
women are single mothers, or abandoned by their spouses,
that they can hardly bring home enough to feed the family.
Therefore, bringing jobs to groups of women can become
one of the most productive tasks NITCA can accomplish.
